IS IT TIME TO ABANDON RACE AS A MEANINGFUL CATEGORY?
Join us for a thought-provoking discussion featuring Coleman Hughes and Inaya Folarin Iman for The Equiano Project, exploring Coleman's groundbreaking new book advocating for colorblindness against the backdrop of identity politics and race-based public policy.
In a climate where colourblindness is often labelled as controversial, ineffective, and even racist, Coleman fearlessly challenges these perceptions. He contends that modern racial politics and policies have strayed from the vision of the Civil Rights movement, which advocated for a colourblind society. He suggests that practices like rigid interpersonal rules about race issues, ineffective corporate diversity programmes, and certain race-based laws meant to remedy injustice have instead bred distrust, animosity, and harmed the very people they were created to support. Hughes firmly believes in progress rooted in our shared humanity rather than divisive identity politics.
Don't miss this opportunity to engage with two influential voices currently shaping the discourse on race and society.
